Stress

With the semester coming to an end, the amount of stress put on college student's begins to increase. Between professors piling on homework and projects and finals week fast approaching, stress is almost unavoidable. It's important to realize when you are stressed and to cope with it in a healthy way. There are many options to dealing with stress. Some of my favorite stress reliving activities include running, working out, listening to music, and drawing. It's important to find what best relieves your stress so you can end the semester on a positive note!

Healthier Options at Starbucks - Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino

November is always an exciting time of the year. The temperature starts cooling down, Thanksgiving is almost here (which means Christmas is on its way), and most importantly Starbucks starts selling their holiday drinks! I love Starbucks and get it at least once a day, but their holiday drinks have to be my favorite thing to order. My all time favorite holiday drink is definitely the peppermint mocha frappuccino. After I did some research to see if I could recreate this drink on my own, I realized just how unhealthy it is if you order it off the menu. The first picture below is the food label for a grande (medium) peppermint mocha frappuccino just ordered right off the menu. That one drink has 430 calories, 16 grams of fat, and 65 grams of sugar. Now that is just crazy. Fortunately Starbucks allows their costumers to customize their drink orders. The second picture listed below is the food label for a customized peppermint mocha frappuccino. A tall (small) peppermint mocha frappuccino with nonfat milk and no whipped cream only has 210 calories, 0.5 grams of fat, and 46 grams of sugar. Now I know it still isn't super healthy option, but customizing your drink can make it a little more healthier. Great Weekend for SRU Athletics

This weekend was a great weekend for Slippery Rock Athletics! The women's basketball team won both of their games. The team is now 2-0 and this is the first time since the 1997-1998 season that they started off 2-0. The Men's basketball also won their season opener at Virginia State. The Slippery Rock football team beat West Chester to become back-to-back PSAC Champs on Saturday. I couldn't go to the game, but I fortunately was able to watch it on tv, and it was very exciting!

Infused Water

According to WebMD, each person should drink an average of eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day. Of course the amount of water consumption changes based on your weight and activity level, but 64 ounces of water a day is a good starting point. Now, if you're like me, drinking straight plain water is not the most exciting thing. Luckily, there are alternatives or things you can add to water to make it taste a little better and make drinking 64 ounces of water a day more enjoyable. Fruit infused water not only tastes better than plain water, but it also has other great benefits. Infused water can improve your mood, reduce muscle fatigue when working out, and make you feel fuller so you do not eat as much junk food. Infused water is a great and healthy alternative to drinking plain water. For more information, other benefits, and some delicious recipes check out the link posted below.
